Program Committee

The primary responsibility and goal of the Program Chair is to recruit volunteers to staff the Program Committee and carry out the four functions of our Scouting program (Activities and Civic Service, Advancement, Camp Promotion and Outdoor Activities, and Training), each handled by an operating committee of the district.

Activities and Civic Service

The District Activities and Civic Service Committee:

  • Plans a well-balanced schedule of district events, and recruit teams to carry them out.
  • Decides how Scouting can become involved in selected needs and interests of communities.
  • Help units take part in community service projects.

Some activities planned for the coming year include: Tiger Day, District Volunteer Recognition Dinner, Klondike Derby, District Pinewood Derby, Boy Scout Camporee, Cub Scout Campout, Cub Scout Day Camp, Family Jamboree, and Scouting for Food and Clothing.

Advancement

   The District Advancement Committee:

  • Monitors rank advancement throughout the year and identifies those units with little or no advancement that may need special assistance.
  • Recruits and trains an adequate group of merit badge counselors and publishes a current counselor list.
  • Reviews and approves service project plans submitted by Eagle Scout candidates.
  • Recommends youth members or adult Scouters for special awards and recognition.

Camp Promotions and Outdoor Activities

The Camping Promotion and Outdoor Activities Committee promotes camping and outdoor activities at all levels of Scouting.  It helps to insure that units have a good outdoor program by offering assistance to develop this part of the Scouting experience.

Training

The district Training committee supports the leaders in the District by providing them a well-rounded and thorough training program.  This program:

  • Evaluates who needs training
  • Builds an annual training program
  • Develops plans for specific courses
  • Provides training recognition
  • Evaluates training
  • Promotes Fast Start training.

"The Boy Scouts of America stands for a set of principles. These principles have a lot of staying power. The values you learn as a scout are like a compass. They help you find your way through difficult and sometimes uncharted terrain in life.  The principles of Scouting give you a sense of what's important."
--  Bill Bradley, U.S. Senator, New Jersey
