Advancement Committee Meeting

   A regular meeting of the Council Advancement Committee.  The committee is comprised of the Council Advancement Chair and the district’s Advancement chairs.

 


 

Baloo Training (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation)

   This is a one-day outdoor training event for Cub leaders who want to provide a camping experience for their unit.

 

Boy Scout Roundtable

   A monthly meeting for any leader involved in Boy Scouts.  This meeting helps share information and ideas between troops in a district, gives ideas for their troops programs, and provides information about district events to help with camping, training, fundraising and more.

 


 

Catholic Committee meeting

   Meeting of the Catholic Committee that promotes BSA religious programs through the Catholic Church.

 

Challenge Camp

   Camping opportunity for local, at-risk youth (ages 10-15) at Camp Craig.  Youth are partnered with adult mentors doing activities to promote team building and decision making skills.

 

Council Annual Banquet

   The Council Annual Banquet is our chance to recognize all the hard work that goes into making our council successful. Silver Beaver recipients are recognized.

 

Council Camping Committee Meeting

   This regular meeting helps evaluate the overall camping program of the council.  It involves council and district Camping chairs.

 

Council Eagle Court of Honor

   This annual dinner is to recognize all those scouts who achieved the rank of Eagle in the last year.

 

Council Program Committee Meeting

   The program committee meets regularly under the direction of the Council Vice President of Program.  This committee helps monitor the overall program of the council.  It evaluates our activities, training, camping and advancement opportunity.

 

Cub Day Camp

   Cub Day Camp is run in one-week sessions where any Cub Scout can participate.  They will work on their requirements while having the time of their lives.

 

Cub Scout Leaders Basic Training

   Cub Scout Leaders Basic Training is for any leader involved with Cub Scouts or considering volunteering.  Leaders learn more about the duties and roles of the different positions of the pack.  The participant will also gather useful ideas and resources to fulfill their roles.  This course provides training in the policy and procedures of cub scouts.

 

Cub Scout Roundtable

   A monthly meeting for any leader involved in Cub Scouts.  Each month the roundtable will cover the next month program theme. This meeting is designed as a tool to help share information, ideas and resources between packs in a district.  At this meeting leaders can gather ideas for their packs programs as well as learn about events the district plans to help with training, fundraising and more.

 

Cub Winter Day

   An outdoor day camp for Cub Scouts, usually in December at Cub World.

 

Cub World

   Cub Scout camp facility on the Dan Beard Reservation (near the I-275 Wards Corner exit of I-275.)

 


 

Den Chief Training

   This training is for Boy Scouts who are interested in becoming Den Chiefs.  Den Chiefs assist Den Leaders with their dens.  They act as role models and help keep the program fun and exciting for Cub Scouts and keep them interested in transitioning into a troop.  The Den Chief is a leadership position and counts for rank advancement.

 

District Annual meeting

   A meeting of all Chartered Organization Representatives plus Members at Large in a district to elect district leadership and receive a report on district health.

 

District Camporee

   At a district camporee, troops compete and practice all the skills they have learned.  This weekend event is fun and is an excellent way for the boys of different troops to meet each other.

 

District Commissioners Meeting

   A monthly meeting where the unit commissioners meet with the district commissioner and assistant district commissioners to evaluate the heath of the packs, troops, and crews in the district.  Problem solving as well as a compilation of unit needs occurs to aid the District Committee in program planning.

 

District Committee Meeting

   A monthly meeting where the activity, advancement, camping, finance, membership, and training committees of the district develop program and policies to help ensure a quality district and support the packs, troops and crews in the district.  The district committee receives a briefing from the District Commissioner to help set district direction.

 

District Volunteer Recognition Dinner

   An annual dinner to recognize the volunteers in their district and to present well-earned awards.  Sending your unit leaders to the district dinner is an excellent way for the unit to say thank you.

 

District Operations

   The Key Three (District Chairman, District Commissioner, and District Executive) from each district regularly meets with the Council Vice President of Operations to help coordinate the districts' efforts and help ensure quality programming throughout the council.

 

District Pinewood Derby

   The District Pinewood Derby is where the Cub Scouts that placed at the top at their pack’s Pinewood Derby get to compete with one another to see who will be the district champion.

 

District Program Committee

   Part of the District Committee that coordinates district Activities/Civic Service, Advancement, Camping/Outdoor events, and Training events.

 


 

Eagle Court of Honor

Executive Board

   The Executive Board, the lead council-volunteer leadership, meets regularly to determine policies for the council and provides direction for the districts.

 


 

Facilities Committee

   A regular meeting where the status of all council facilities is evaluated, projects designed and funding is discussed.

 

Family Jamboree

   This is a one-day event where all the units in our council can participate and visit other unit’s displays.  The public is invited to showcase Scouting. It is a lot of fun and units can even earn money by selling tickets to the event.  It is held annually in May at Coney Island Park.

 

Friends of Scouting

   Our Friends of Scouting Campaign is our annual appeal to help raise funds to continue to offer the Scouting program to the youth of our community.

 

Fun with Son Camp

   Fun with Son is an overnight or weekend camp for Cub Scouts and their families.  During the day the cub participates in all the activities of camp.  Exciting nighttime activities are available for everyone.  Camp starts on Thursday evening and ends Sunday at Cub World.

 


 

Good Scout Award Luncheon

   A recognition program for individuals and organizations that provide outstanding service to Scouting.

 


 

High Adventure Rally

   Training and orientation to high adventure opportunities within Scouting, with particular emphasis on Philmont Scout Ranch (New Mexico), Florida Sea Base, and Northern Tier Canoe Base (Minnesota).

 


 

Introduction to Outdoor Skills Training

   Two-day training program in outdoor skills for Boy Scout leaders, taken after Scoutmaster specific training.

 


 

Junior Leader Training

   This weeklong course helps train the youth leaders of a troop to be effective leaders.

 


 

Klondike Derby

   A wintertime, outdoor district event for Boy Scouts that is usually a troop competition.

 


 


 

Merit Badge Challenge

   This is an advancement program for Boy Scouts to earn merit badges, sponsored by Service Areas.

 

Merit Badge Counselor Training

   The district provides this training for merit badge counselors.  This training is designed to train counselors in procedures as well as techniques utilized in working with scouts.

 


 

New Leader Essentials

   Training for all adult leaders that covers aspects common to all parts of the BSA program.

 

NOAC (National Order of the Arrow Conclave)

   This is a gathering of OA lodge members from across the nation and is held annually at various locations throughout the U.S.

 


Order of the Arrow Banquet

   This banquet is an annual council event for the Order of the Arrow.  All Arrowmen are invited to attend.

Outdoor Awareness Clinic

   This clinic is designed to help leaders learn more about safety and skills for the outdoors.  Participants learn effective ways to lead backpack trips, camping activities and some first aid concerns.

 


 

Peterloon

   A Council camporee held every two years at Cub World.  Units from out-of-state and from Canada often attend.

 

Popcorn Sale

   The Popcorn Sale is an excellent opportunity for units to raise money for themselves while supporting council by selling several types of popcorn.  This is a council-sponsored event.

 

Program Kickoff

   An annual event (usually in August) to distribute and review all program material to unit leaders for the coming year.

 

Protestant Committee Meeting

 

   Meeting of the Protestant Committee that promotes BSA religious programs through Protestant churches.

 


 


 

Relationships Committee meeting

   The Relationship Committee deals with maintaining good relationships with chartering organizations and the community.

 

Religious Award Program

   This is a program that has been created to provide scouts with religious growth and recognition opportunities.  Contact the Council Service Center for a list of opportunities.

 

Resident Camp

   Long term camping opportunity at council camps for Cub Scouts, Webelos, and Boy Scouts.

 


 

Scouting for Food and Clothing

   Scouting for Food and Clothing is our annual effort to collect food to support local food pantries for the needy.  Each year our units collect food from around the community and deliver it to drop off sites around the council.  Donated clothing is also collected and similarly distributed.  All participants provide a Good Turn service to their community.

 

Specific Training (e.g. Cub Leader, Troop Committee, Scoutmaster/Asst. SM, and Venturing)

   Training that is specific for the adult leadership position.

 


 

Tiger Day

   Special district event for Tiger Cubs.

 

Trainer Development Conference

   This council-wide training is for leaders who are interested in becoming involved in staffing our training courses.  Here, participants will learn skills and techniques to become effective trainers.

 


 

University of Scouting

   University of Scouting is a one-day course for any adult leader involved in Boy Scouts program (Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venture and others).  The course will be broken into 50-minute workshops that cover over 120 topics: program, skills, administration, interests, crafts, program planning, and much more.  Participants will select which workshops they wish to attend.

 

Urban Scouting Committee

   The Urban Scouting (Scoutreach) committee meets monthly to evaluate the Urban Scouting program throughout the council.  The committee is comprised of selected Council personnel and the district Urban Scouting Chairs.


 

Venture Xtrm (Extreme) Camp

   An exciting outdoor program for Venture crews.

 

Vision Conference

   An Executive Board long range planning conference.

 


 

Webelos Leader Outdoor Training (WLOT)

   This course is for Webelos leaders as well as Bear leaders who are thinking about continuing as a leader.  Here participants will learn program ideas to help them in their role as leaders.

 

Webelos-to-Scout Open House

   As a district event, this is an open house where Webelos can meet the different troops in their area and look at the troops program and style.  This can be a troop event to invite prospective members (e.g. Webelos) to visit and participate.

 

Wilderness Engineers Meeting

   Meeting of Wilderness Engineers, scouters who donate time and services to maintain our camps and other facilities.

 

Wood Badge

   Wood Badge is advanced leadership training.

 


 


 

Youth Protection Training (YPT)

   This is a training program to teach requirements and methods of handling with child abuse (e.g. drug, sexual issues).  At least one leader in a meeting involving youth must have completed YPT.  This training should be renewed at least bi-annually.  This training takes approximately 90 minutes.
