“Why Training?”
Some of the first
questions that new leaders ask is:
“What
am I supposed to do? How do I do it? What is expected of
me?"
That's one reason why we have training.
Training shows new leaders how to do their jobs and allows for an
interchange of ideas with more experienced leaders.
Also, every Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Explorer
deserves qualified, trained adult leaders who will provide the best
program possible in the way it was intended. All Scout leaders
no matter the program area need training to help them understand the
aims and purposes of the Scouting program and how to deliver the
promise.
The District Training Committee has developed
the training plan and activities shown below and on subsequent pages
linked from this page to provide the knowledge and skills our
leaders need to present the first rate Scouting program we have
achieved so well and for so long.
Training in Fort Hamilton District
The district training
committee determines who needs training, builds an annual training
program, develops plans for specific courses, provides training
recognition, evaluates training, and promotes Fast Start training.
“The Training Plan”
The Boy Scouts of America's training plan not only
provides training for new leaders but also provides continuing
training for all leaders. In this way, leaders continue to
learn through experience and from additional training opportunities.
They stay up-to-date on the Scouting program and acquire new skills
that help them do a better job.

This diagram shows how Scouting training is categorized
and how it progresses for adults and scouts.
The table and lists below identify
specific training topics required for various leadership
roles in the Fort Hamilton District. Click on highlighted
items in them to see more
