   Below is a list in alphabetical order of all the district level volunteer jobs it takes to run the Scouting program in our district.  A brief summary of key responsibilities is listed beside each job.  If you’d like to see the full content and functions of any job, click on the job name in the list.

   On our Volunteer Opportunities page you can find a list of the jobs currently vacant and needing to be filled.  Almost every role listed also has openings for assistants to help in accomplishing the objectives of that role.

Open Activities Chair Recruit & coordinate Activity Committee sub-chairs to deliver the following district-wide activities:
- Civic Service Projects
- Hospitality
- Pinewood Derby
- Recognition Dinner
- Scouting for Food & Clothing
- Tiger Day

 

  Adult Recognition Chair Co-ordinate the adult awards for the District dinner.  Serve as the single point of contact for submission of adult training knot forms to Council.

 

  Advancement Chair Recruit & coordinate Advancement Committee Sub-Chairs to stimulate and coordinate youth advancement and recognition of their accomplishments.

 

  Camping Chair Recruit & coordinate Camping Committee Sub-Chairs to promote youth’s interest and participation in the following camping and outdoor programs:
- Cub Scout Outdoor Programs
- Cub Scout Camping
- Boy Scout Camping
- Order of the Arrow
- High Adventure Program
- Summer Camp

 

  Camporee Chair Responsible for delivering a quality district-wide outdoor program experience for the youth and adult members of the Ft. Hamilton District.  Typically this includes arranging for units to sponsor and organize a fall camporee, spring camporee, and winter Klondike.

 

Open Camp Promotion – Cub Scouts Organize and promote a quality outdoor camping program for the Cub Scouts in the district following National Boy Scout guidelines.

 

  Camp Promotion – Boy Scouts Organize and promote a quality outdoor camping program for the Boy Scouts in the district following National Boy Scout guidelines.

 

  Chaplain  Contribute to the spiritual welfare and growth of Scouts and leaders.  Some of the steps in this are to provide:
- A spiritual tone for meetings and camping experiences.
- A spiritual counseling service when needed or requested.
- Training to unit Chaplains and Chaplain Aides.
- Training and encouragement to Scouts and Units in the Boy Scout Religious award program.
- Encouragement to religious organizations to recognize appropriate adult Scouters who satisfy requirements for their religious award.

 

  Communications Chair Recruit & coordinate Communication Committee Sub-Chairs to provide for effective communication of information within the district.  Includes:
- Overseeing District Website
- Maintaining district’s email groups
- Submitting articles to Fireside Chat
- Submitting info to public media
- Supporting the district’s museum

 

  Cub Day Camp Program Director Develop, promote, and coordinate plans for the District’s Cub Day Camps.  Recruit and train Day Camp Directors as required for each area’s Day Camp in the District.

 

  Cub Day Camp Director Develop and implement a pan to conduct the district’s Cub Day Camp including recruiting necessary Day Camp staff.

 

Open Cub Scout Training Chair Recruit & train District Cub Scout Basic Training Committee members and Pow Wow Chairman.  Ensure that adult basic pack leader training is conducted at least twice a year.

 

  District Chair Responsible for the overall operation of the Ft. Hamilton District including recruiting & coordinating the following key district committee chairs:
- District Commissioner
- Finance Chair
- Membership Chair
- Program Chair
- Communications Chair
- Venturing Chair
- Chaplain

 

Open District Vice Chair Support the District Chair and the operation of assigned portion of the District.  Be prepared to fill in for the District Chair when necessary.

 

  District Commissioner Recruit & coordinate enough Unit Commissioners to ensure all Scouting units in the district receive regular, helpful guidance and service.  Be prepared to fill in for the District Chair in his absence and that of any District Vice-Chair.

  Finance Chair Recruit & train District Finance Committee Sub-Chairs to coordinate the following fund raising programs necessary for delivering a quality program experience for the district’s youth and adults:
- Friends of Scouting
- Popcorn Sales

 

Open FOS (Friends of Scouting) Chair Design, promote, and coordinate the District’s Friends of Scouting Campaign.  Recruit and coordinate the activities of the FOS Community Campaign Chair and the FOS Family Campaign Chair.

 

  FOS Community Campaign Chair Coordinate the district’s FOS Community Campaign.  Includes organizing community events to develop new prospects and raise donations to meet the Community Campaign goal.

 

  FOS Family Campaign Chair Coordinate the district’s FOS Family Campaign.  Includes recruiting and training Unit FOS presenters and supporting units in raising donations from their families to meet the Family Campaign goal.

 

  Good Turn for America Chair Recruit Sub-Chairs and establish plans and procedures for the district’s annual Scouting for Food and Clothing Drive, and promote unit participation.

 

Open High Adventure Chair Promote youths’ interest in advanced camping and the outdoor adventures through the following National high adventure programs:
- Philmont
- Florida Sea Base
- Northern Tier

 

  Historian Collect, catalog, and display memorabilia that capture and preserve the district’s history and traditions.  Maintain and enhance the Ft. Hamilton District’s museum.  Set up and operate the museum at major Scout functions such as Peterloon, District Camporees, Jamborees, etc.

Open Member at Large Be available to consult as to improvements in the district and serve as chairs or members of various district committees.  Vote in the annual district election.

 

  Membership Chair Recruit & coordinate the following Membership Committee Sub-Chairs and establish plans and tracking systems to meet the district’s recruiting goals.  Work with District Commissioner and Training Chair to develop programs to retain existing youth in the program.

  Order of the Arrow Advisor Guide the activities of the District’s Chapter of the Order of the Arrow, advise its youth leaders, coordinate with the Council Lodge.

 

  Peterloon Chair Develop and implement plans to promote participation of district units in the Peterloon Camporee.  Includes recruiting volunteers to support the district and council operations at Peterloon.

 

Open Pinewood Derby Chair (Job description in process)

 

  Popcorn Sales Chair Design, promote, and coordinate the district’s Popcorn Sales campaign including securing the participation of Unit Sales Managers and training them in their responsibilities and functions.

 

  Program Chair Recruit & coordinate the following Program Committee Sub-Chairs, and establish plans to ensure a quality program experience for the district’s youth:
- Activities
- Advancement
- Camping/Outdoor
- Training

 

Open Recognition Dinner Chair Coordinate the organization and implementation of the annual district recognition dinner to identify and properly acknowledge people who have made significant contributions to the district Scouting program.

 

  Roundtable Commissioner Plan and conduct monthly Cub Scout Leader or Boy Scout Leader Roundtable Meetings to train unit leaders and communicate key district-wide events and issues.

 

Open School Night Chair Recruit & train District Round-Up Team; develop plans; and train district unit volunteers to conduct effective presentations to enroll new Cub Scouts and their families into the district’s Cub Scouting program.

 

  Scoutmaster Fundamentals Chair Recruit & train the District’s Scoutmastership Fundamentals Training Committee members and develop and coordinate plans to deliver the training effectively to those needing it.

 

  Tiger Day Chair (Job description in process)

 

  Training Chair Recruit & coordinate the following Training Committee Sub-Chairs, and establish and coordinate plans to ensure adequate and effective training for the district’s leaders and volunteers:
- Intro to Outdoor Skills Course Dir.
- New Leader Essentials Course Dir.
- New Unit Leader Training/Support
- Training Registrar
- University of Scouting Chair
 
Open Training Registrar Manage registration for district sponsored training events, and maintain registration and completion records.

 

Open Unit Commissioners Advise unit leaders and provide service to units and their Chartered Partners to make it easier for them to do their jobs and improve their effectiveness in delivering the promise.

 

Open Urban Scouting (Scoutreach) (Job description in process)

 

Open Venturing Chair Direct and coordinate the operations of the district’s Venturing program.

 

Open Webelos Transition Chair Develop and implement programs to assist units (Packs, & Troops) in achieving a smooth transition of Webelos to Boy Scouting.

 

  Webmaster Publish and maintain the district’s website.  Advise the District Communication Chairman on ideas relating to website and communications improvement.
